not sure if this is the correct place to post but I was wondering what people think is the best way to greater power. I have a 1293 stage 2 engine and am considering a power increase but can't decide between supercharging the engine I have or going the 1380cc route, stage 3 head and 45 DCOE route.

Is there a difference in the way the power is delivered in both?
What is drivability and reliability like?

Why not build the 1380 w/stage 3 head, and then supercharge that?
Iv not driven a supercharged mini, and i dont pretend to be an engine builder guru, but to a degree it depends on how much money you have... you can only ever get two of the following -cheap-reliable-power-

from what i know is that a supercharger is better for the delivery of power i.e the car picks up speed better as the air that is delivered is better cooler and better compression.
so if you want a quick of the mark power with instant u know boost go for the charger but i am lead to believe that the better route for reliablity would be the 1380 but thats only through what i have read so you know?!?!?!

For torque/power vs cost forced induction outstrips N/A hands down...

It's very easy to get a 1275 motor with a supercharger to pull well over 100hp and 100lbft torque at the wheels. Doing the same with a n/a is possible but takes long duration cams, well ported heads, the right ignition system and fueling...

the right ignition system and fueling...

To be fair a supercharger needs the right ignition and fueling, get this wrong and things will go pear shaped even quicker with forced induction.

I'd say it depends how much power you want. They both stuff more air in to the combustion chamber in direct proportion to engine speed. A big bore engine is simpler and more efficient, a supercharger is capable of shifting more air 'n making more power.

Got it in one I reckon!

I'm currently running a 1380 with a full race head and a 45DCOE, and I still feel I need more power and torque, so I'm planning to supercharge my 1380.

To get a 1380 up to 100 at the wheels will cost a lot of money, , which could be offset against a supercharger kit.

Why not build up a fairly basic 1380 bottom end based on a rebuilt A+ bored to 73.5mm, then supercharge that? A decent rebuilt 1380 bottom end with all new bearings/pistons and a reground crank shouldn't set you back more than £500, then supercharge that setup and you should see loads of power and torque, in a fairly reliable driveable engine.

The 1293 that I have is a nice little engine and I was thinking it would be a shame to part with it for a 1380 so I am swinging towards supercharging. It would work out cheaper as I only have to buy the kit.

Is there much to fitting it and can it be done while the engine is still in the car?
Also is there any difference between the kits on offer? I am swinging towards the jonspeed one as they built the engine and I'm happy with that

you could always go for a turbo and make some proper power
