Hi
On my 1960 mini, I need to replace the front end panels (front panel, wings, a-panels, and the inner wing (flitch) as far back as the shock mounts.

I have herititage panels which I will use, but need advice on how to weld the front repair sections of the inner wings (flitch) to the rear part of it. I know that a butt weld will make an invisible repair, but is this the usual way to weld it, or is joggling the best way with a full seam weld?

The repair section will be from the very front to the shock mount holes, which i can use to help align the panel.

Also, generally is the front end an easy and quick replace in general?

Any help and advice would be great

Thanks

You never want to joggle a weld, it looks horrible and just causes rust.
Front ends are very easy. Bolt the front panel to the subframe, make sure the bonnet closes nicely to it then fit the wings to suit the bonnet. Do the A panels last.

I would do a butt weld join, joddled panels look pants and tend to rust from the inside out as paul said.

Classic case of more preperation, better result.

Hi there. I've just read your reply to replacing part of a flitch pannel, nice work. do you know how you go about replacing the lot? Mine was bent all the way to the dash when i bought the car and have already gone mad with the angle grinder. Cannot for the life of me work out how you get right into the top.
Cheers.

you get right into the top by removing the scuttle. Its sandwiched up there between the scuttle, the inner wing/fitch and the inner dash. Where the widscreen rubber fits over it.

here. The scuttle and closing plate are removed.

Many thanks for the reply. They don't like to make life easy do they. Oh well back to the grinder.
Thanks again
Rick
