I can't offer anything specific. Clean and check all the electrical connections. Does it make any difference if the engine has had time to warm up, that might point towards temperature sensors.

nope no difference at all how long the engine has been running but i thought it coul;d be a problem with the actual ecu its self....?

That'd be rare like all digital devices it tends to be all or nothing.

I had this. I wasn't able to drop the clutch without it cutting out. It was a nightmare having to stick it neutral, then keep my foot on the gas whilst left foot breaking at junctions
Turned out to be a break in the wire to the MAP sensor. Over time, engine rock had caused it to start breaking up. If you've had the engine out, it's quite possible you've disturbed a dodgy connection / section of wiring. Get a multimeter on it and check the continuity, whilst somebody wiggles the MAP sensor wires around. Alternatively a diagnostic test will pick it up. It was the only way I found it on mine.

My cooper SPI had a really bad idle, it turned out to be a split in the vaccum pipes, both of which were split where they join the flame trap, a quick replacement and all was well, it may also be the air flow sensor that bolts into the air filer housing very easy and quick replacement and also could be the temp sender switch again a cheap replacement but really fiddly to get to on an Spi.
Would start with the vaccum pipes first, air sensor then temp sensor.
Cheers
