I can't get my nearside hub nut undone, I snapped some wheel studs so I need to replace them, but im at uni and have limited tools, I have a small breaker bar but it's no where near long enough, how can I get it undone?

I can't find anything to put over my small breaker bar, I tried looking for a scafold bar but can't find anything.

Any suggestions?

Hmmmm, could work but would have to be a stupid amount of zip ties, and I realy don't think tape is going to cut it.

For standard studs you should be able to swap them out in situ.

Borrow a bigger breaker bar, from the uni if needed.

I'm afraid you may need a good metre long bar to get the thing undone, they're not that expensive really, maybe buy one? I presume you have the correct socket?

Also, have you a torque wrench suitable for tightening the nut again when you put it back on, just going for FT isn't enough.

Yeah Ive got my torqure wrench available but it clicks when using it to undo it, Im just going to have to bite the bullit and buy a big ol breaker bar, my uni doesn't have and kind of engineering/mechanics courses so can't borrow anything from them.

Oh and ive snapped a stud before but the studs come out of the back of the drive flange onto the disc so I can't tap them out, ive tried that already.

Just so you know, you should NOT try to use a torque wrench to undo tight bolts, at least you stopped when it clicked, but it can damage the mechanism. Better buy a big breaker bar, one of the best things I ever got, you'd be amazed how often you use it...

I used quite a short breaker bar, from Hellfrauds. I too broke a stud, don't believe what you read in books about wedging a bar between the studs and the ground etc..... total mince. Better to refit the caliper, get a mate to stomp on the break pedal (or wedge the pedal then, like I did), then half kill yourself using every ounce of muscle to shift that hub nut.

I agree about it not being possible to knock out a standard stud when its broken, it fouls on the hub. But once you've got the hub nut off its easy enough to replace the studs.

Had a similar problem on a previous car I used a length of scaffold tube placed over the breaker bar.

Thats what I usualy use.

I bought a breaker bar but the biggest i could get was not the best 600mm, I got the breaker bar on and used a trolley jack to lift the bar. The only real issue after that was getting the broken studs out, so had to go out again and buy a hammer.

All done now, but the bolts that go disc-drive flange have damaged threads in the disc so I have to buy new discs now, ah well.

Using your torque wrench to undo has completely screwed up any calibration it may have had :P
