They stop the distributor getting wet when its raining! Theres 3 brackets that its held on by and it just fits infront of the engine :) There a good idea, but I tend to use a rubber glove over the dizzy instead!

I dont have any pics though im afraid :D

Attaches to two brackets on the rocker cover. Mine is just held with cable ties.

This seems to be the cheapest place to get them, even though Mini Spares have lowered their prices a bit to compete (but not enough though): -

Theres nothing exciting about them, they prevent water having direct contact with your electrics.

They use the top two rocker bolts, there is a third fastener but its right at the bottom near the gearbox, alot of people dont use this one as its a PITA to get to, the lower part of the shield will slide in nicely between the bodywork and grill or thereabouts so its really not needed.

Heres mine, always best in clear unless your engines a bit on a mucky side!

Clean, dry and well serviced electrics are the best way forward on Minis.

Just try not to use WD40 unless you really have to and then be sure to clean it all off otherwise it'll attract muck and grime and you'll have even bigger problems, then.

Plus it stinks on a hot engine.

Was thinking about getting one of those, but then realised that because of the aircon compressor, the alternator sits much higher so the shield will not fit... :P

Shame they don't make these for water ingress from beneath. :P It's not the rain itself that scuppers Matilda, it's the puddles & standin water.

Well you could fit the pre-1987 type as fitted to round fronted Minis. That was just a piece of moulded plastic that was screwed on to the back of the front panel, so it protected the distributor.

I owned 2 older Minis with that type of weather shield and it seemed to work just as well as the later larger version that used the mountain brackets instead.

I'm sure you could get one from Somerford Minis?

Thanks for that, Taffy... :xxx: I now use a plastic dizzy cover for Mercs that wrap around the dizzy. Works just as well... :)
