(Edit: forgot to delete the template stuff.)

Model: Mayfair 1275
Year: 1993
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

I'm going to buy some replacement vacuum hoses.
A bit confused though.
I thought I understood what vacuum advance was for: pressure sensing of the inlet manifold essentially adjusts the timing.

But on this car, the vacuum hose goes from the carb manifold to the a unit at the right of the engine.
This seems to be near a hose for the rad?
Then two more hoses come out of this unit via a little plastic T piece.
One goes to the carb. The other disappears into the wing.

The car has electronic ignition (not that I think this matters does it?)

Questions:

1) Why do I have so many hoses?
2) What's the middle step about?
3) Are these the right hoses:

Minispares Hose..

Ta muchly as always. :shy:

Have a look in the Moss online catalogue to pick out exactly which ones you need, though you could pick up some snazzy, coloured pneumatic tubing off Ebay.

You've got the right idea the extra bits also allow for engine temperature and link into the emissions system. Electronic ignition makes no difference, but as it produces a better spark the ignition timing is generally slightly advanced.

Aha! Right. Good, I was on the right lines.

Thanks - will get a whole replacement set ordered.
Wondering where the pipe going into the wing is going?
(I seem to remember a thread a way back asking this.. but search has let me down!)

Searching with google is good, click on the advanced search tab.

It goes to the purge valve for the charcoal canister under the wing, the canister collects petrol fumes from the carb and tank.

Ok, so there could be a leak there too.
