Ok, For the past 6 months or so, I've been having a problem with Flo, it starts to misfire and then goes away again, and I can't seem to track down the cause. In an attempt to sort the problem out, I've replaced with new items, the fuel pump and carb, fitted a dizzy that I know to be good, an electric one off a 1991 cooper, new cap, rotor arm, leads, and plugs. New sport coil. Timing has been set up properly. I'm now at a bit of a loss. The problem usually occurs when you first start the engine, if you leave it for a few minutes, it clears itself, and is ok, til the next time you go to start it, doesn't make any difference if it's hot or cold, but it doesn't do it every time, just about every other time on average. Once running it's fine, unless it gets very hot, I drove to Worcester from Bristol on Friday, got about 50 miles going about 75/80mph, and it started to misfire quite badly, the engine was completely choked if you tried to accelerate, so I just tootled along at about 50 in the slow lane for 5 minutes, and then it seemed to clear and was ok again. My next step would be to take the head off, inspect and change the gasket, but does anyone have any other ideas? I'm stumped >_< The engine is a 1275 A+ with 1:5 rockers, HIF44, electric dizzy.

Cheers!

I had exactly the same problem. I thought it was the electric ignition - I too, put a lecy one on from a 92 open classic.

I ended up changing the ignition module on the side of the dizzy and the loom from that to the coil was corroded so I changed that too. It improved but still similar problems ...... i checked the timing again and it was spot on - but i advanced it just a bit and it completely solved the problem

Hope this helps -I was scratching my heads for weeks

Hmm I was thinking the module, but they hardly ever fail and I have driven the car that I took it off, and it was always perfect. Could try advancing it, but I don't see why that would change things, it's setup properly as it is..
