Ok so my speedo stoped working the other day and im 99% sure theres nothing wrong with the clocks so this leaves me with the following:
The clocks are from a '79 1275GT
The speedo cable as far as im aware is from the original '79 GT A series engine
The engine however is a newer A+ Series engine
So im guessing there is some incompatibilty between the various ages of parts concerned.
If so does anyone have any recommendations on how to rectify the problem or on what type of speedo cable i need as there seem to be quite a few available?
I’m using the same 120mph smith’s clocks and have an A+ series engine. The original cable on mine was the long (clubman) grey push fit ended one, and the replacement I bought was the same.
Until i had a few problems with the cable not seating correctly, but it had been working fine for a couple of years up to that point. When in desperation from having to drive around with a Speedo that didn’t work, I “borrowed” the later style white clipped ended cable for the later Nippon clocks from the 89 Mayfair.
And so far not only has the Speedo stayed working, but the cable is more secure on the back of the clocks as it’s clipped on rather than a sliding/push fit.
