Hey all,

Quick question.

They whole child in booster seat thing was originally brought around to make the child higher (obviously!) so the seat belt is in the right position for them and not across their neck.

Adverse effect in my mini.

When my son sits on a booster seat in the back, it makes him "too high" for the seat belt. It fits over him, but is lower than his shoulder, so has to go up and over. In an accident it would actually cause harm and inflict pain. I checked, and when he's not on the booster seat, it sits perfectly across his shoulder / chest.

Is there any discrepancy in the Law for booster seats in older cars. As my mini didn't have seat belts in the back, so they simply did not ( as could not ) have them on. So Booster seats are actually pointless ! Now I have seatbelts, Booster Seats are incorrect ?!?!?!

Help !

I had the same thing in Boo, my thoughts were... if the belt is in the right position without the booster seat... sod the law, my childs safety is what's important... end of!

Surely there's some consideration between different cars? So if the belt sits right in the rear seats of a Mini, then it should be okay not to use a booster seat?

I' ve sent them an email. Its a Very Black and White Law, but my Mini is now in a grey area ! Children have to be on booster seats, and that Law is set in stone.... except for some sports coupe's and MPV's that have small rear seats that could only accomodate children, so they can disregard the Law. Classic Cars can disregard it if there is NO Seat Belt Present. Other new small cars can also disregard the Law but only as they have passed a certain safety Standard.

With my mini, that safety standard was not even there to be checked, but my new seat belts are best suited for accomodating children as the back of the rear seat is so low. So for safety, the child restrain ( booster seat ) should not be used, but its not passed the safety standard, and its not a sports coupe or MPV. Hmmm. swings and round abouts

Its a Grey area.

well don't use the booster seat, just take it around with you... if PC plod questions you about it show him it's unsafe to use it in your car

I recently bought a booster seat for my 3 yr old.

Most child safety seats are done on weight not age or height, they classify on different grades due to the weight of the child.

She needs a booster in the back of my mini, but in my landy she sits in a full childs seat.

Mini's are different, and safety comes first, if the belt sits in the correct place...thats that.

As soon as she sits in the back (seat belt over shoulder) without booster, thats what she will do, regardless to what anyone says.

(plus, the booster came with a hideous white and pink flower cushion, so i had the material changed to UJ to match my pillows in the back.) HAHAHA
