I want it to point to a domain IE www.website.co.uk i know you can have dynamic ip services but they dont link that way, its www.website.dynamiccompany.com.
Has anyone here done a similar thing so they have a website and it runs using a dynamic ip. My IP rarely changes as its never turned off, but occasionally it does so it will change on the reboot.
Can anyone help.

Right i want to create a web server at home. I currently have an account which does not have or allow static ips.

Take a look at DynDNS.org they offer dynamic addres re-routing, and have a bit of software which you can install on the server pc so that if the IP does change, it will automagically update the DynDNS information. This will give you an address such as http://yoursite.dyndns.org you then get your domain name to redirect to this dyndns address.
This is probably the easiest way of doing it.

Sam

Ta Sam, its what i saw too, just wondered if there was another option as that then relies on that server being quick enough to update.
What will you be using the server for?

oh and...
I've got a feeling the software works by it detecting you're ip has changed so it logs onto dyndns server and changes your ip that is on there server, i havn't used it in a while but I never had any problems with it and it was easy to set up

Club website, my own website, possibly other things in the future. Most prob worring over nothing.
dyndns and apache is all you need, unless you use a actual server o/s like server 2008 then you only need dyndns

Well id use apache, find iis so unstable, even at work its horrible on server. (Got xp professional that id have for the server)
Now just need to resurect my old server machine at home. It got made redundant awhile back and just sat around. Dont think not restarting it in a year helped either, got a bluescreen to bluescreen
