I have a Mini HL and my front pasenger side break cylinder has a leak (the one on the right)

It covered my front drum break in break fluid, which acted as a lubricant, so my left side doesnt break, so when i break i turn right (onto incoming traffic)

Not fun!!!

I have had a look and i need to replace the Rubber seals.

Can i replace the seals without taking the Break cylinder of?

and if i take of the cylinder, i might aswell put a nice shiney one on there, for only a couple of quid more.

Whats the best thing to do?

I bought New cylinders for mine ( 1981 HL Auto with drums all around ) for under £3 each Brand New from Welsh Autoparts (welshautoparts.co.uk ). So at that price, its better to be safe than sorry, especially with brakes !

Going with it's a daily driver, so you want the part now. ~Try local parts shops. Cost will be around £10 for a new cylinder. £2 for another bottle of fluid.

Definitely replace the cylinder- if you replace all 4, particularly with new drums and shoes adjusted up right, you will notice a huge difference.
Just done this to mine; replaced the lot and brakes like a different car. Just make sure you put the drum return springs back on right, and give the system a good bleed once you have done!

Hi,

The front has 2 per side, which ones leaking ? or are both leaking ? also you will need a new set of shoes, brake fluid will ruin the frictional qualities of the shoes it has soaked in to.......

At £3 each they are not going to very high quality....

I Use either QH or Delphi which are made in the EU.

A quality wheel cylinder will have a better surface finish in the bore of the casing part, cheaper ones are quite rough and hence seals do not last that long :D

Regards Martin

If you can't get any by this afternoon, send me a PM I can check my local shop in the morning and post you some. Well, for the cost of postage and parts.

cheers you have all been a really great help

What i think i will do is pop along to the spares place near me, they said they may have some cylinders knocking arround, But i am just about to invest in some Superfins, and new shoes. And shall pick up some new break fluid as well.

Yayy, no more pulling to the right into oncoming traffic :gimme:

ooooh. Now you tell me

May have been £3 but i've bought so much stuff from these guys over many years and never had a prob. They actually sell to most of the motor factors and shops in Cardiff, so are just really cheap ( usually ) in comparison to going to elsewhere. ( For example, the box they came in, is the same as the box (manufacturer) that two other shops in cardiff were going to sell me, yet for £8.98 and £9.95 )
(For another example, I bought a Fan Belt for £2.26 from them )

Just one of those good old shops that no-one usually goes to except trade.
