Hi all,
My 1978 998 clubman has began rumbling when it is in fourth gear. I can only hear it at lower speeds, probably because I can't hear over the engine on the highway. It almost sounds like a bearing, but it's not continuous; it seems to stop and start. It kinda sounds like something scraping once every few seconds. And only in fourth gear.
I'm not sure how long it's been going on for, because it's not very loud. Just wanted to catch it early if it is a known problem. The gearbox is in good order except that the synchro is worn (ie. can grind into 2nd if I'm not paying attention).
Any ideas?

Hello
Looking around for similar symptom I came across you post. Did you ever find out what was wrong?
Mine is when I accelerate in first and drop speed. There's an almost deafening vibration. Found a leak near gearbox today but too dark to see exactly where.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
