That'll be called "run-on" - the fuel is being ignited without the spark. Is the car running rich? Have you checked the timing?

as said this is run on. Normaly timings out. May aswell check valve clearence. My mini does this because is runnig way to rich due to a incorrect needle.

Get a strobe light on the case, adjust as per Haynes.

My car runs on sometimes if you've been thrashing it about for a little while, even though the mix/timing are spot on. Had it tuned several times by different people and it still does it.
we call it a "cold" and use it as a sign that she's enjoyed herself

Can also be where carbon has built up in the cylinder head, which glows red hot where the engine has been running. When you turn off the engine, all you are doing is stopping the spark, and as the carbon is glowing it still ignites the petrol from the mechanical fuel pump (pumping still as the engine is still turning over). Sometimes it can just even be carbon on the plugs, so take them out and give them a clean if they are dirty?

this happened to my parents' mini still not too sure why
probably running too rich but we just ignored it then about a month later
the car broke down and wouldnt start again.
When we took the engine apart the valve seats had been burnt due to
overfueling meaning we had to replace the whole cylinder head
