[b]Description of problem
started my engine up again, as priviously when i started it it looked like i had a leak from the timing cover. I put new gasket on, gone to start it today and the leak is still there quite bad as well any ideas where it could be coming from? as therss no way it can be the timing cover

Did you change the crank pulley seal while you had the cover off? I take it all the bolts on the timing cover tightened properly?

head gasket ?
this would be my guess too, as would be rather difficult..with engine in car to notice it at the point where it would leak making you think it was timing cover

If its the same problem i had its the u seal between gearbox and engine, Its behind the lower end of the timing casing backplate and will drip from the bottom of the timing chain cover. Mine pi--ed out. Engine out to do properly i'm afraid.

if you are sure it is coming from the timing cover area it could be the plate that the cover bolts to , also has a gasket , can be done with engine in car , was the crank / pully seal changed ?
does the engine have duplex ? if so has the timing cover been modded for the extra clearence - knocking the dimple out A+ engines .

Often the threads on the engine's base plate (where the cover bolts to) are pulled out or the timig cover's holes are, cover might aswell be warped. Which means it doesn't seal right, even with a new gasket (use sealant too!).
In some cases the rivet in the cylinderhead (thermostate side, on the rear) is leaking
It's quite a rare fault, but I've seen it happen.
But it more liekly the timing cover just doesn't seal as it is supposed to do
Another possibility would be the speedo drive.
