Fit the rubber to the car first, put some sealant in the groove along the bottom and washing up liquid in the sidea and top.
Put the glass in the bottom and one side, use a plastic spatular to pull the rubber round the rest of the screen. I like to wear safety specs for this as Ive seen the edges of laminated screens splinter and bits of glass fly of it at speed.
Yes, you need the special tool for the fillet.

I wouldn't use washing up liquid as it's corrosive to the paint (or something) use car shampoo or glass cleaner. I fitted the seal to the car first and managed ok.

The special tool is vital but I had to re-weld mine as I bent it!

My for fitting the chrome locking strip is to use plenty of lubricant, again a solution of car shampoo in a spray bottle.

Thanks Paul, do I put the sealant just in the grove where the glass slots into or should I also place some in the grove where the metal of the car goes.
Will use safety gloves and glasses ( hate glass splinters ).
I have some silicone sealant for when I built my reef tank sump so I hope that will do the job.

I used a large, blunt flatblade for fitting the windscreen into the black rubber. Had to admid defeat and buy a proper filleting tool for the chrome strip, worth it though, still a long job fitting it, and my hands and arms were killing me after fitting the fillet but looked fantastic when I was done.

I only put it in the bottom where the glass goes into.

I know that washing up liquid isnt best for paintwork, but ive been using it for 20 years on dozens of screens and as long as you wash it off straight away its fine. You dont use very much anyway, I very rarely get it on the paint.

When fitting the screen into the rubber please dont use a screwdriver or something metal at that, the screens can chip really easy at the edged and if your unlucky with just crack the screen, uses something plastinc and take your time and you wont have any problems...

now my suggestion, would be,

1, Place the rubber, in the correct position as stated
2, Feed a length of paracord or other thickish string into the groove where the windscreen sits, leaving a good long tail
3, Sit the windscreen on the aforementioned groove, have a friend support it from the inside
4, Once the screen is seated in its groove at the bottom, slowly pull the paracord/string out from the groove towards the screen, this will pull the lip over the screen and seat the screen neatly in place, no need for spatualas, screwdrivers, spoons or tyre leavers.
5, Now fit the fillet strip, I used the proper tool, about £8 from any mini place, I did use washing up liquid, but gave the seal a good rince off after

Top tip, do it on a warm day, the rubber is easier to work and get the fillet in, I did the front in January and it took me an hour and a half, I did the rear last week in the sun and it took about 20mins. :D

Well i would like to pass on my thanks to you all for your help, managed to get the darn thing in today but need to buy a tool for fitting the filler strip.
I used a wee bit of washing up liquid and used my sons plastic tyre levers to help get the rubber over the glass.
Was a pain in the ass to do on my own, but after one hour and loads of swearing it is in, the only thing is the gap for the filler strip is almost closed up at the top so I bet that will be a right pain in the ass to get in.
Anyone recommend where to buy the fitting toll for the strip part.

Steve.

Any decent auto factors might have something that would do.

You could always run it round to a windscreen place and borrow their tool or give them a fiver to put the locking strip in for you :D cheaper than the tool!
