1994 mini 1274 sprite i bought this car off ebay its the first mini i ever owned and it has a problem.
when i start the car up u have to have full choke then it stalls shortly after you can rev the car and it will keep going but it sounds and feels like its running really rough it will not idle at all soon as u take foot of the throttle it dies.
ithe person i bought it off saif it was running fine but then they changed the exhaust and its been like this since..
it has hif44 carb i believe!!!! k&n direct bolt on filter and some sort of performance exhaust any help appreciated.

forgot to add its making a pinging sound when its back fireing.

mixture might be completely out, timing etc but to be honest i'd get a compression test done as that sounds exactly like my former mini when the head gasket went.
