i need help with a 1996 spi 1275
yesterday i went into the car and there was a strong smell of burn plastic on further inspection i noticed that the wire which provides the constant live feed was i very bad condition it looks as if it had touched another wire and had burn. i took the battery of and replaced the damaged wire. however when i went to start the car i turned the key and nothing happened all of the lights work but the engine wont even turn over, i have checked the fuses and they all seem fine i did try another battery but this hasnt worked i dont know what else to try the car is fitted with an immobiliser which turns on and off do i need to reset the immobiliser or somthing please can some one help me im completly stumped

Because my mum had a small electrical fire a couple of weeks ago and even though the fire was no where near the ignition barrel it burnt out the switch in the ignition barrel. All lights and everything else still worked, but the car couldn't start because the ignition barrel no longer had position 3.
Only suggestion i can think of off top of my head....

When you turn the key does it have all three setting,.. as in position one (first click) Position two (click two - ignition lights on) then position 3 (starts and goes back to position 2) ... if that makes sense??
