Leyland Mini 1000 body with a 1300 enigne (automatic gearbox)
1978

I bought my Mini last Friday from a young guy who did some work on it.
This Friday my garage went to the techical checkup to get my car ready for the open road (this is mandatory in Belgium) and the insurrance.

Their where 2 points on the list which needed repair; (I'll only mention the oneI have an issue with)

The Speedometer doesn't work at all, it seems when looking in to it the cable was simply not there :dozing:)... kind of normal it doens't work then isn't it.
OK, I got the part from our local shop today and wanted to install it as I bought the Shop manual aswell, I thought it would be easy, thougth wrong.

I simple can't seem to locate where I need to insert the cable in to the gearbox... it's an automatic gearbox so I thought it would be a bit more difficult but I justcan't seem to locate it and the book isn't helping me either.

Could someone send/post me a pic top down from the engine where it should be located?
Or bottom up if I'm wrong.

Thanks a million in advance,

Nico

hi nico..

the speedo drive is in the same place on the gearbox as a normal manual unit...lean over the engine with your right elbow on the cold radiator..find the bottom radiator hose follow it down and you will find it underneath..takes a bit of getting too but it can be done..happy motoring...

Tog77's way is the best and safest way of doing this task.... however if you are struggling and have a ramp, pit or jack (and axle stands) then from underneath can be a little easier =]
