Hi,
I'm getting a puff of blue smoke when I come off the accelerator, it only really happens when I'm on the motorway though usually cruising around 65, if I'm going faster it's an even bigger puff of blue smoke. Am I right in thinking it is either the oil ring or the valve steam seals? If so, how can I tell? Both sound like rather large jobs.
The engine is a fairly recently rebuilt 1293 (not rebuilt by myself though).
Thanks
Ash

Hi there.
Either of the following will need doing - You Piston rings are shot and allowing oil into the combustion chamber - or - your valve stem seals are letting oil into the combustion chamber...
I would perform a Compression test and see if this gives any clues to the condition off the piston rings - if these turn out ok then it would be an idea to check your valve stem seals - If either turn out to be the problem - you're taking the head off anyway!

It does sound like classic inlet valve seal failure.

Thanks guys
Okay, looks like I will do a compression test and check the valve stem seals.
