whenever i go over a bump in the road or a speed bump, i usually get 2 very distinct noises. i cannot pinpoint them exactly, but i think they come from the passenger side.

the first is kind is a "skooshy/hissy" noise that mainly happens when i go over speed bumps!

the second is more apparent on bumpy or cobble stone roads, it sounds like a plastic on plastic squeak, that is audiable from the outside.

anyone have anything similar?

sorry for the poor descriptions! :D

any help to rid me of these evils would be great!

I would say that the hissy noise is possibly your tyre rubbing on an arch?? have you had it lowered ot do the tyres sit close to the top of the arch??
The squeky noise is very familiar to me lol... sounds like a noddy car!! That would be your tear drop mount i would expect. Cheap and easy to replace :D

The tear drop mount (or pear drop mount as it is sometimes called) is what joins your subframe to the body work.
If you get eye level with your front number plate you will see that either side you have 2 holes. Usually on one side is where you would put your tow eye. There is a nut on the back so you will need a socket on the front whilst holding the nut on the back with a spanner. there are a few types of mounts you can get but i think the poly ones are the best - usually they are orange or yellow. do the same job but they are more versatile than the original ones shown below

ah, i will have a look in haynes for removal.refit. are there any other symtoms of teardrop failure?

would a bad shock cause the skooshy sound?

If the mount has completely gone then it could be a possibility that when going over larger bumps like speedbumps then something is rubbing together like your subframe and a panel?? i dont know though so you would have to check the condition of your teardrop mount first

Another possibility is the knuckle joint.
If the ball has worn through the plastic cup, it makes a horrible loud "squeek" as it's metal rubbing on metal.
just something to consider.

i'll do a quick inspection when the engine is out, i never though about that. though i dont think it sounds like a metal on metal noise, but i will check anyway

Best thing to do is sort the teardrop mount and see what happens :xmas:

I replaced one of mine a while back, and it cured about six different squeaks and rattles I'd been trying to pinpoint for ages.

I've found that the poly yellow/orange teardrops will became noisy in no time when used on a road car, standard type teardrops are better for a road car.
