Fitted new carb jet (waxstat, HS4 carb, 998cc) now car wont run right. Seems to be very rich, got mixture screw set as lean as possible but still coughing lots of black smoke out. Does it need a new needle fitting? If so which one is it for a 998cc? Runs fine with choke out, which baffles me.

Cheers.

Do you mean screw or mixture nut, its a nut on the HS4, only ask incase you are adjusting the wrong thing.

What needle is in it, and what mods have been done to the engine ??

Also is the choke linkage fitted correctly to the new jet.

Sorry, yeah its a nut not screw. Its a standard needle, no mods just a RC40 back box. Yes choke linkage is fitted correctly.

Can't hurt to change the needle they are pretty cheap. AAC is standard on a no mods 998

Worth checking the new jet is moving fully up and down and not jamming.

sorry if this is teaching you suck eggs, sometimes helps to clarify bits incase we miss something because we assume somebody is doing it right.

looking from above turning nut anticlockwise is weaken , clockwise is enrich
