hi, just got the shell sorted on mine. have replaced loads of panels, etc, and am ready to paint soon. as for the underside, i have painted it in red hamerite, followed by stone chip, then more red hamerite. i will be painting the car tartan red. will just blow over the sills and arches when im spraying the top coat.

have a really good finish to the underside, im sure people will disagree with what i have done, but it should last for many years. ta

I'm sure that will be ok. i painted black hammerite then decided to go for blue hammerite because i wanted it matching, but ure idea sounds good enough to me. mind u i am no expert.

there was another topic on this forum about waxoil and similar products, but the general concesus was that waxoil was ok if want to clean the underside as it looks really messy and it doesnt harden up.

When i restored my last mini i used this rubbery stuff from Wurth that stayed rubbery but could be painted over. It was called Stone Guard Black and was bloody expensive, about £5 a tube and that was years ago. I think i used 10 tubes!!! I think they do a similar product in aerosol. Also when i built my Kit Car i used a similar product that could be painted on with a brush which would be easy if you have no compressor. It was called 'WUNDERSEAL' and can be found for £10 here: http://www.cbsonline...wunds-482-p.asp - however std seam sealer from your local auto factors is the same stuff!

I would go this route then paint where needed, it will be worth it.

I generally will zinc prime all the rust effected areas. I have zinc primed a whole car before to stop the rust. then stone chipped on top. Then sprayed with body colour (2k paint) then filled the sills etc full of waxoil making sure you get in every little hole etc. You can use clear waxoil if you don't want black wax everywhere.

Dinitrol gets some good press, DINITROL 445 can be overpainted, check out http://www.dinitrol....assic_cars.aspx and have a look at their range ;)
