Common sense mate, i think apprenticeships are great, just make sure you actually want to do what you have chosen and its not because you have been pushed into it or that its your only option.

If you want it mate then i say go for it. Earning and learning is definately the best way.

yer its great and you go to a collage that has had loads of money put in by the company. make sure you can make good tea and make sure you get stuck in and you will learn loads i was in one for 5 months until my garage went into administration and finding it hard to get into another one. but 1st week at collage wasnt fun most probably would be the same for you health and saftey all week then a 3 hour test on it.

i have ust finished my apprenticeship (4 years in mechanical engineering) best decision i ever made. i got paid to go to college full time in the first year, then i worked at the company doing day release for three years. at the end of it i have come out with a stack of qualifications and work experiance to boot! although not in the same area i cant see any major differances.

Plus now my qualifications are leading me into uni.

But unfortunatly, due to the crappy state of the world i have been made redundant! boooo! but going to uni anyays so not all bad

Cheers
Ben :(

Thanks for the replies, its definitely what i want to do and i haven't been pushed into it. I got offered an apprenticeship at Honda and Renault but i chose honda purely because i prefer the company and the money was better. It's £150 per week which i thought was pretty good really. Also go away for 8 one week blocks to the Honda institute in slough which should be good.

I have got a friend who did his apprenticeship at mercedes and completeted it but says it was quite boring as nothing seemed to ever go wrong on them in them days. Also had one who worked at honda and had similar issues. But then moved to alfa and was doing such a variety of work that he could always do. Its would change daily as everyone knows alfa's aren't the most reliable.

But anything is better than nothing. Luckier than most people looking for them.

I work with a lot of apprentices at BAe and they all love it. not quite the same as mechanics but similar experience I'd guess.

...and who makes tea at work these days? brew machines ftw =)

I did an apprenticeship with Airbus and didn`t really like it but it got me a decent job at the end of the day. I was a good few years older than all the others and they were immature which annoyed me but I just got on with it and looked at the bigger picture.
