Just a quick one!

After a complete fresh build on my 1380 the drop gears Knock slightly as it seems that i did not shim them up correctly when i built it! (foolish i know!!!)
My question is what may happen if i leave this as it is, as it does not seem to effect the drive.
the only thing is there is a slight tap tap tap on low tick over as the engine is cammed and is quite lumpy at about 1,000 rpm, just audiable over the engines "normal" noises, its almost like they are knocking back and forth slightly, if you see what i mean!
will anything break or wear quickly due to this?
I am convinced that this is the problem as it only does it when the clutch is still biting, i know its not the crank as you have to fully dis-engage the clutch for it to disappear!

Thanks in advance!!!

are they straight cut drops???

as if they are alot of them 'chatter' when the car is idleing. so you should be fine, but wait for others to comment before taking my word

Hia

No unfortunatly they are not straight cut gears!
They are standard, they arnt a set though (gears out of different engines), dont know if that makes any difference?
Really dont know if its a problem or not, my local frendly garage said that he didnt think it was a issue, but he is deaf so i dont think that counts! lol

cheers

Are you sure it's the drops ? When you push the clutch in does the noise disappear ?

Hi

yes, i am 97% sure that its the drops / transfer gears, as it does sounds like gears tapping back and forth and yes it does dissapear, only once the clutch is fully disengadged though, so as i said i dont think it is the crank!
I cant think of anything else that would make that kind of noise, nothing in the gearbox would make this noise! or would it???

thanks

If it stops when you press the clutch it is the drop's, just nature of the beast.
