The bloke I am getting my Mini tuned with asked, "what fuel are you using?" i replied, "unleaded." and he said, "the good stuff?" I said, "you mean optimax? no, but i can... would you recommend it then?" to which HE said, "yeah, and i can tune your Mini up for it instead of regular fuel."

I know what optimax is and claims to do etc. but will it really make a difference on my 1974 Stage 1'd Mini?

Is it worth it do you think? I'm off in an hour!

yes, providing you make sure you always use Optimax or a similar octane rating petrol in the future. If you revert to the lower octane (95RON or lower in some cases) fuel then your Mini will not run as well, as the timing/fuelling etc will have been set to perform better using the higher octane fuel.

Excellent, thanks  There isn't really a SHELL garage near me, but there is an Esso a 1.4 mile up the road that does it higher octane fuel so I shall be using that from now on... but hey, that'll be over £1 per litre now! Never mind... she's worth it!

Squirt some in the tank when you fill up with regular unleaded. That's it really.

BP Ultimate is also the 'good stuff'. I paid 105.9p for it the other day. :nugget:

I found it worked wonders when I upped the CR of my last engine and altered the timing accordingly. Occasionaly Id have to fill up on normal fuel and I could really feel a difference. However if its just a simple stage 1 tune then you may only gain a couple of bhp over normal fuel.

Aaah a couple of bhp will do me fine :cheese: Plus all the rest Bill Richards Racing managed to get out of her for me... she feels so much better now  So Optimax is the best huh? What RON is Esso's top whack then?
