PMd by the way Jon

Cheers.

Right update time me thinks. I got the battery problem I had fixed. The engine steady bracket was welded back on to the bulk head and a new earth strap was fitted. Got it back from the garage. Then I had a massive problem my engine just went mad on the way back from college. The only way she would drive was in first or second gear with the choke all the way out. Turns out that was a combination of bad fueling from my dodgy carb and my points going. So put my new points on and sorted the carb out as best as I could until I can get the twin carbs. So got it running again and have now managed to bugger the steering. It now seems to have quite alot of play. It still drivable thanks god and iv been given a small lists of things it could be. None of them seem hard to fix so I'm hoping its one of them and not a new steering rack.

Then comes to all the stuff iv been buying. Well as the cars on the drive outside all the time iv decided to to replace any panels just yet other then the bonnet. In the new year I will be clearing the garage out ready to fit my car and a trailer in their so when its in side I will put a new front end on. So for now iv decided to start on my interior and sound system. I ordered some clock faces from MiniMonty the other day so will get some pictures of those. Iv also just ordered a stealth parcel shelf and a stealth kick bored from Robert. I will then be buying a pair of dash rail coverings from Retro Retrims and a new dash and hopefully a set of carpets from the xmas mini show when I go. Then I'll put my seat on my Bday list which is in March.

I will get some pictures when I start fitting the stuff.

Cheers. Jon.

O yes and someone from our club is selling some twin carbs for quite a good price as well so I may buy those as Jenny's Xmas Prezzie.

What carb have you got on there at the moment? HS4 i guess?
A good upgrade would be a HIF38. Same size yes, but it's a more modern carb.
The twins will cause you some fun to set up...

I thought HIF44 is too big for a 998?

I could be wrong, but that's the impression I always got.

Well I have a feeling I have a HIF 44 on my car. And the garage has said that its the wrong carb so that could be it. Not to sure I need to have a speak with Brian.

If you let more air in, you have to let more gas out. It's actually better to change the exhaust first and the carb second.
Best of course is both at once. I can't remember if you've got a stage one on there dude?

Right. Well I think I have found the steering problem. I need to loosen the to bolts and just bang the steering rack down then tighten them up again. Im told that should do the trick. Now comes to the new engine. Im looking for a 998 so if anyone has one they want rid of let me know. Now I don't really know about carbs so I'm not sure what ones the best but looking on here and on the web by the looks of it the best one for a 998 is a HIF38 does that sound right? If so I will need one of those.

So My shopping list.

A 998 engine.
A HIF38 carb.

One of these.
http://www.minisport...EDMS5013UL.html

and one of these

http://www.minisport...fo_TKTK01L.html

That should give my car enough go with out putting my insurance through the roof.

That is untill I can afford to insure a 1380.

Thanks and any help will be welcomed.

Jon.

I think i'll probably have a spare 998 sooner or later.. it might benefit from a strip down and rebuild new gaskets etc.. but started okay ish after about the third attempt at turning over and not being ran for 8 or so years..
