hello, there seems to be mixed opinions on camshaft choice for a sc'd engine.

Some say stick with somthing mild like an sw5 but the red cooper with carbon roof which was featured in miniworld a while back who i think is owned by ozzy from moss has a 310 scatter cam!

mine is going to be a road car but i would like somthing quite lairy which will make the most of the sc,

can anyone shed any light on this?

cheers

If you want something lairy why are you bothering with a super charger.

Id build a low compression ratio engine with a 266 with a gt17 turbo. Certainly kicked me in the back when i was in the passenger seat of one.

overlap is what you want to avoid the most, just because "someone" is using a 310 this does not automatically make it right for your application, have you ever driven a car with a 310 or even a 296 ?

my car is very different to the rest of the s/c cars out there! the 310 scatter is coming out very soon! it's not easy to drive and is a hand full! i would not recommend it on a road car or a track car for that matter! lol The cam was in the engine when I started the build and before the s/c was even thought about. I found out the hard way that a high lift race spec cam is not the way to go and I don't mind holding my hands up and saying it was the wrong choice...lol
Now I know first hand it's not the way to go! although if was interesting to drive it was also a pain in the arm pit.
Some times a lesson learned the hard way is better in the long run and the experience has now been added to my list of do and don't under don't ;) I make these mistake's so you don't have to!!! lol

i know that if one person is using it doesn't mean it's the right choice but it was just an exapmle that has been used.

i was just trying to get some idea of what other people have used and the results they have achieved

thanks

hello, thanks for that advice, which cam are you going to use next? i have an sw5 in my n/a motor at the moment but quite fancy somthing a bit more 'lairy' but don't know what is realy practical in a supercharged road car???

nice car by the way, how does it drive? miniworld said it was 188bhp! that must be fun...?

Its a bit on the edge lol But I love it...done my own profile for the new cam which Piper is grinding for me I will post up when its in and I get the car on the rollers again...the 310 was peaky!! lol 188bhp @ the flywheel 154@ the wheels
loads of weight loss on the car so the ptw ratio is fun...especially in rain coming back from L2B ;)

its "ok" with a 296sp cam. But with an 8.5 compression ratio or similer it will be an utter pig.

Or just run a turbo engine with a gt17 turbo and a higher compression ratio.

More power
Power delivery like a modern turbo engine
Better fuel economy
kc266 cam

The guy is not asking about a turbo? he's asking about cams for a supercharged engine >_<

does anyone else have any ideas of which cam to use, i want it do be as good as possible on the road but dont want to revving the *man danglies* off it to get any power. I have a sw5 in my normally aspirated engine which i am tempted to use, would this be a good choice, what has everyone else used in their sc engines???
cheers

I have 286 scatter in mine not sure what it is like yet but I based it on this: It will be a bit lumpy at bottom end but the eaton is on boost at about 1500rpm so this should compensate for the cam which then comes on at 2250 rpm and the cam runs out of steam at 7500 rpm and the supercharger hits saturation point at the same revs. so this made it a good bet for me.

What are you using the car for? is it your daily driver? as this will aid your decision.

its not my daily driver, i dont rely on it to get around but i want somting that i can drive through town without too much difficulty, i have an SW5 which i am tempted to use, i know this cam is not too lairy but i have heard you dont want anything to lairy in a sc engine,

i'm still trying to find out what other people have used and their results so if you read this and have a sc engine then could you please stick a post up of what cam you have and the results it gives,

cheers
