i have a completly standard Mini city 1989.

when i start my engine up it throws out a hell of a lot of smoke, it does this until i start driving of.

i have the mixture set up right, just want to know if can stop this as it seems to burn a lot of fuel when starting up.

Naturally the choke causes more fuel to be used up at first.

What colour is the smoke? if it's white then it's probably just a mixture of steam made from condensation over night in the exhaust system. If it's blue then this is symptomatic on worn valve stem seals.

no its not blue, its white, it does on first start up of the day, but it also does it through out the day when the choke is not used. would this be the same thing?

As a general Rule:

White smoke is actually steam.
Blue smoke is burnt oil
Black smoke is a sign of a rich mixture.

I would say it's nothing to worry about. Is it a lot of steam or just a few puffs?
