Hi Guys, It’s been a long time since i have shown my face on here but need some advice.
I brought myself some Mk1 lights second hand the other day and the chrome is quite pitted. I don’t really want to go to the expense of re-chroming them. I just wanted to know what results people have had with chrome effect spray paint. I have seen some in B&Q and considered giving it a go. I assume as long as I prep the metal properly, sand it back and apply a primer it would be just like spraying any other colour. Also would a lacquer be needed after painting?
I don’t really want to C**k them up if spraying them is going to give a rubbish finish as they are not in terrible condition I would just like them to look a bit better than they do at present.

In my opinion it's not worth bothering with

I used that chrome paint on my front bumper when it had a big rusty flake come off, I rubbed it down, painted it carefully and it looked....well better than a big brown rusty bit, but it definately wasn't chrome. Just a light silver really.
Personally I wouldn't bother! A bit of pitting is just character. I've spent 10months faffing about Welding Brian, I refitted the pitted headlamp rims etc (too tight to spend any more money) and to be honest It makes the car wear its age better I think.

Thanks guys.
Exactly what i was thinking. They are not really bad so will just put up with it, i would prefere a few small holes from the pitting than really flat chrome effect paint flaking off all over the place.
Cheers

Dan,
Have you tried giving them a quick go over with some auto-sol? You'll be amazed at the results you can get with it!

Mutley
