Hi all.

Just drained my oil off and removed the old oil filter.

Going to Fill up with 'Halfords Classic Motor oil 20w50' and put on a' Unipart GFE443 filter'.

The car is a '96 spi cooper. Am I using the correct oil and filter?

Cheers
D

always use 20/50 no matter what age it is. there waas an article on minimag stating there is no proof mineral oil damages cats, and after all the gearboxes in late minis are the same as early ones, so need the thicker oil.

as for the filter number im not sure as i always use fram filters.

Its definitely a single point injection. No airbag, side mounted radiator, etc etc.

I started doubting the filter was right because the mini sport one show a different one for '96 onwards' which looks exactly like the one I just took off!

1996 is the crossover point for SPi and MPi.... I have an SPi from August 1996.... and its all SPi. Personally Id use the NON synthetic oil. Re the filter .... I dont know about the part number but as long as you get the spin on filter for the UP TO 1996 Mini then you should be ok.....

Hope this helps

Rob

The filter is on a bracket pointing down. I bought the filter for cars upto 96 so it must be the correct one. I was just thrown by the one I took off looking like the balck one on the mini sport website which says for cars 96 and on.

Will go for the 20w50 claasic oil from halfords as I need it ASAP. Apparantly it also has addtives which help old seals which is a bonus as the bottom of my engine is covered in oil.

Thanks for all your advice, I had a few niggling doubts and didnt want to ruin my engine!
