hiya

after changing my head gasket and starting the engine a few seconds later, as started backfiring out of the carb and sounding realy nasty.

i took the rocker cover off, and the number2 exhaust pushrod had dropped by about an inch and was flapping around.

i have a feeling that the cam follower may have broken or something else?

what could have happened??

cheers

I think you may have pulled a cam follower out when you removed the push rods. You may get away with removing the tappet cover and refitting the cam follower, but you may have damaged the camshaft lobe and bent the push rod.

Basic small bore fail! you can take the covers off to see if you have f%%%ked the camshaft and parts, if not and you see no damage put the cam follower back. be prepared for the worst.

i did this recently on a custoemers car.

removed the pushrod by compressing the valve with a suitable screwdriver, relocated the cam follower, re-inserted the pushrod, released the valvespring and re-adjusted tappets.

i got away with it ...........
