You're looking at alot of data there...190mb for original tom tom one data...900mb for the western EU disc...

And its not just something you can slap on an SD card and use, have to generate unlock codes....Its fiddly and ive only done it once!

In a way, won't it be easier to go onto eBay and buy a new SD card?

if its reasonably new and still under guarantee send it back to where you got it from and get them to sort it out.

This wont help, cus you have to put all the data on the sd card, plug it into the tom tom, which will then say, OK SO WHATS YOUR UNLOCK CODE?

I've got some....software that can help on that side.

I bought a 2Gb SD card, and loaded up the western maps on it as we were driving to paris, kept the standard maps for when we returned and used the other sd card for a camera i think >_<

it said there was a new tomtom home so installed it did an update
it said it failed for some reason (cant remember why)
and haypressto no maps at all :o
tomtom say i have to buy new ones at £40
and it was thier update (well i think so) that caused it in the first place

tomtom is about 4 years old

Tom Tom software, other than the actual Navigator and maps, is garbage and doesn't work. Home doesn't work well, updates don't work well, it's all badly put together. Some things that might help:

Is this for a genuine Tom Tom or for a copy of Navigator used in a PDA? If the latter you should restore to an earlier version of Home because the latest version doesn't work with the PDA types of Navigator.

Stick the card in a PC using Vista, it will probably tell you the card is broken and attempt to fix it. The fix will appear to fail but the card will now be fixed and working, from then you can reload an old backup onto the card and it will work.

Tom Tom sets up their cards to use smaller data packets than any other software normally uses, that is the only difference between a genuine Tom Tom card and any other and is the reason that Navigator usually works slowly when copied onto a generic card. This can be fixed by re-formatting the card to use smaller packets and copying an old backup onto it. That is if you have an old backup saved.

running vista home said it would scan and fix but still no maps
as i said i pulged it in the comp and it said new home version do you want to download it
yes please i said installed it did (tomtom working fine up to the do you want to update your tomtom bit)
then the uk just disappeared LOL just get a blue screen on the tomtom saying NO MAPS FOUND ;)
emailed tomtom and was told tuff buy new ones
you would have thought they would have a back up you can download
it was all regesterd when i bought it so all cosha and above board
and it was thier upgrade that trashed it (well i blame them LOL)
