If you have a teen, and have somewhere to store a car, go and invest in the cheapest, worst car you can think of... ( a lada maybe ! ), basically something cheap, put it in THERE name, NOT YOURS ( rule of the law ) and then store it. In a year or two, when they turn 17 and want a car, and all the cheap cars have been crushed ! the investment will be worth £2000 - £2500 towards a new car, which hopefully by then, new car prices will have gone down a little as well.

But the New Goverment Law states THEY have to own the Car and have owned it for OVER a year. It does not need tax or mot either, just needs to be scrapped. ( If everyone starts scrapping their cheap cars, what will be left for the students to buy ! )

By your kid a banger for £50 now and make £2450 in a year, what other investment can beat it....

ALSO.. KEEP HOLD OF YOUR MINI ( Like you wouldn't anyway >_< ). ALL THE (YEAH BORING I KNOW )FINANCIAL ADVISORS I KNOW ARE ALSO EXPECTING THE COSTS OF CLASSIC CARS TO GO UP IN THE FUTURE, AS WHY SELL FOR £1000 TO USE TOWARDS A NEW CAR, WHEN THE GOVERNMENT WILL GIVE YOU MORE THAN TWICE THAT ! SO THEY'LL TRY TO SELL FOR AT LEAST £2000 IN THE FIRST INSTANCT.

well as far i'm aware this offer is only running for 11 months, plus the car needs a valid MOT. Which basically is to stop people just buying a banger and using it to get 2k of a new car. so unless you got one already and owned for a bit this new law doesn't do anything for ya >_<

People seem to think 2k off a new car is amazing - you can haggle them down more than this in this economic climate. They are so desperate to sell.

my friend got 4K off a Ford with nothing to part exchange - this was a few months ago - so you could probably get even more off now!

Only an idiot would do this to get 2k off a brand new car, when as said they could haggle that 2k off anyway, or get even more off by buying a pre-registered car. Madness I say!

Aye, but he could have got £4000 + the £2000 !!!

I AM MAN ENOUGH TO SAY WHEN I AM WRONG ! The government does specify it needs an MOT, and although they expect it to end in a year ( as hope loads of people go for this ) they will run it until the £400 million goverment funding they have put aside runs out. So basically, thats alot of scrapped vehicles to be considered to be gone in a year, I think it would last a lot longer than that !

The offer is running for a year.
The government put in £1K, the manufacturer at least £1K, so you'd only be on £1K more then any 'normal' offer anyway.

You must have owned and ran the car for a year, and it must have an MOT, this means you can't buy a car, hold it a few years and then trade it in.

The motor manufacturers are offering discounts anyway, especially those that are running very close to the wire, (hello GM and Chrysler), where the dealers want to get rid of stock while they can.

You'd be better using your money to buy stock in the companies that are surviving, Ford for example, shares were at $1 before Christmas, they're now at $6, and rising, that's 500% profit in only 6 months.

As above, I'm a sixteen year old looking into owning a mini (yes, first car, think of the dents as father says ! :shifty:)

I personally hate anything built recently, they all look a bit, well, samey. The closeST I'd come to owning a new car is a Renault 5/First gen clio !

A fair few of my mates say they'd love a Mini too ! Some want those fugly looking "KA's" ! ;)

/me crosses fingers and hopes a minimal amount of minis are scrapped !

You can only redeem the scrappage deal scheme against a brand new car. Why not just buy one that's 6 months old, and is more than £2k cheaper than it was brand new anyway, and then haggle the price down even more...

I'm so hideously bored of these scrappage threads now. READ the law properly before dusting the keyboard off. As said the last 10000 times it won't really affect the classic scene at all, and the only people it would EVER benefit is people (oldies for example, whove been running the same car for the last 20 years and now fancy a change, oooh we can get £2k for our crappy old rover thats only worth £300, lets do that!)

:- :) ;) :o :closed:
