Yo chaps,

I was thinking the other day about what to do when my mini is road worthy. It's not going to be a daily driver but I want it out fairly often, I just don't know what to do about insurance...

Classic insurance, limited mileage etc. all seems like a good idea but to be honest I'm 19 with less than two years no claims (due to swapping policies halfway through my first year) so any insurance is a killer.

Apparently it'll only be about 100 quid cheaper than my streetwise to insure my 998 mayfair, with aftermarket alloys declared.

I was thinking about insuring my dad on it and just driving it (I am covered 3rd party on all other cars) but to be honest would much rather do it properly with my own policy.

Any tricks or good companies to use here? Cheapest quote I can find at the mo is about £650 which to be honest is WAY too much, especially considering I'm wanting to swap it for a 1275 and do a fair bit of modding etc. etc.

cheers
Ben

Adrian Flux was the cheapest for my son 20. They do limited mileage down to 1000 miles a year, he has no noclaims 5000 miles limited cost him £55 per month on a sidewalk. www.adrianflux.co.uk and they offer discount to TMF members.

Hey,

My mini is not my daily drive any more and i was wondering what to do about insurance. In the end i gave adrian flux a call. They seemed really good and found me a very resonable policy. I couldn't use my NCB because i was using it on my pug, but they did take the 4 years NCB into account, obviously not getting the full discount but it offered something!

Basically the deal they gave me was;

- 21 year old with 4 years NCB on another policy, no convictions etc
- Modified 1275 turbo
- Fully comp
- Drive any car 3rd party
- 3000 mile per year limit, which should be more than enough

£470 which seemed pretty reasonable to me.

The original quote i got from them when i did it online was £698 so i'd definatily give them a call and they should sort you out with what's best.

thats awesome guys thanks for the help.

I will check adrian flux out for sure. I almost went with them this year for my streetwise but quinn were still quite a bit cheaper. Hopefully they won't charge much for my mayfair!

cheers

Try out HIC aswell, i tried adrian flux and it was about the same price as HIC, but HIC beat the price.

They dont take NCB into consideration, i was using mine for my mondeo. I have points aswell and that didnt affect the quote.

I have a mayfair with a 1275 transplanted into it and a stage 1 kit, declared it all and payed £475 TPFT on a classic policy with 5000 miles useage, Tried again this year with Swinton and they couldnt get it under four figures, my renwal with HIC is £218.31.

Just be careful with how Adrian flux go about taking monthly payments.

What they don't tell you on the phone is they will pass your personal bank details on and use a third party company called Premium Finance who will swiftly send you a credit agreement with a lovely variable apr of 39.7%, and then charge you 14% on every transaction or extra credit you ask for..

Theres also more hidden charges riddles in and out of the insurance policy to so just make sure you have a good read.

Needless to say I wasn't impressed.
