I am rebuilding an A+ gear box, and I find that the oversize 1st motion bearing circlip 22g851 is impossible to get (or I don't know where to find one). I believe that they haven't been produced for some time. Does this mean that it doesn't matter about leaving a lager than specified gap between the circlip and the bearing. Surely as the gear box can be left lacking if the correct tolerances are not adhered to, is this not a problem? What do the good gear box builder do?

A google search for the part number comes up with this:

just curious. why is this "oversize" bearing clip required? Does it take the place of the clip: 22G850 which is just a thinner version ???

The specs are:
22G850 Circlip - bearing retaining 0.094-0.096" (2.39-2.44mm)
22G851 Circlip - bearing retaining 0.097-0.099" (2.46-2.51mm)

Why the difference I do not know as I assume the groove would need to be larger too. Or was it a later update/change?

Thanks. I have not seen this site before. It looks promising. Sommerford quote 22g851 in their listings. I spoke to them to comfirm they had stock. I placed an order and they sent me 22g850 standard size. When I complained they told me they didnt have the ones I wanted. Good eh. So I will try this one. Thanks again

The larger size was made because of differences in bearing depth due to different manufacturers. I have checked an old bearing and it is .003thou deeper than a new bearing I have.
