edit: I 'll retract that as KAD's site shows one with a blue collar while the pic on minispares shows a purple collar.

Dear Simon,
The purple ones will be a copies by Midland Wheels from China. Ours have been blue for a couple of years now.

This topic was brought to my attention, so I figured I would give some advice from within the walls of KAD!
The current version of the KAD Quickshift has a blue collar/bell. It also has a grease nipple and a groove running around the blue bell about 5mm down from the top to ensure you can identify ours over copies easily.
We did run a couple of batches of purple bells, however, this was then used to create an 'alternative version' which was manufactured in China.
This creates a Minor problem with identifying genuine second hand articles, however, when buying a new quickshift, a genuine KAD one will ONLY have a blue bell (and grease nipple and a groove!).
The copied versions have incorrect tolerances, and have even been known to cause damage to gearboxes. Furthermore, traders have passed of copied sticks and genuine KAD ones- we have a pile of them here which have been sent in by unfortunate individuals who wonder why their quicksticks don't work- unfortunately we can't do much about it (although our finance director has found the copied quicksticks actually make really good cains for grown beans and tomato plants up!)
The suppliers who buy direct from us are;
Mini Spares
MiniSpeed
Mini Sport
Min-its
If you want to buy cheap, then that's fine by us, but remember- a rebuilt gearbox is more expensive than a KAD version!
If you are ever in doubt please call us or email us and we will, as always, give our best advise!
I hope this answers some questions!
Best Regards

edit: Bit redundant now but got this reply back from KAD after KAD1460's reply
Dear Simon,
Our original quick shifts were purple and we changed to blue at exactly the time MWS copied them.
It is likely that Minispares have an old picture on their website. We do supply significant quantities to Minispares so you would definitely receive a genuine KAD stick from them and it will be the latest blue type with the grease nipple on the side
Best regards,
Colin Woollard
