i hade the same problem with the citroen ax engine, on the nearside i cut the nut off the top arm pin, and welded it onto the plate , (its still held in place with the two small bolts) also had to grind a bit off the gearbox end cover.

on the drivers side i had to cut a hole in the suspension tower on the subframe where a bolt was hitting, (near the waterpump area on the engine), and cut away some of the aluminium webs in the waterpump housing. very little clearance at these two points.

on a different note i thought the hardest bit of the whole conversion was the gearlinkage, eventualy i mounted the big swivel part (with the plastic ball on it) to the inside of the subframe with a couple of bolts, and cut and shut the gearchange rods to suite. a lot of trial and error went into getting them to clear the o/s drive shaft.

good luck, thats going to be a cracker when its on the road. if i can be of any help just ask,

i'm planning another conversion myself, but with the smaller 8 valve 1360 TU alloy version of this engine. ive got a saxo 1.4 sx sitting in my back garden and a mini front subframe in my garage. hopefully a winter project. its a multi point injection 1360cc (75bhp and 85lb ft torque) with a nice long striding 5 speed box (22.5 mph per thousand revs in 5th on 13s) if the injection system proves to be too much of a hastle i can always put on an AX GT / 205XS cylinder head ,which comes complete with twinchoke carb, fuel pump, distributor in fact everything to turn any 1360 tu engine into gt spec. you only need to connect a live and earth. in this spec it puts out 85 bhp at 6400rpm and pulls like a train to the 7000 rpm red line, and 85 lb ft of torque, believe me, in a mini this gives GOOD performance. ive done this conversion before but with the low geared AX gt gearbox, giving 6000 rpm at 100mph in 5th on 165/60 by 12 yokos. the original AX GT was tested at 0 to 60 in 8.7 seconds and 110mph............... a mini is (slightly) lighter, and lower geared due to 12 inch wheels instead of 13s but less aerodynamic , so the acceleration was just as good if not better, but top speed was limited to just over the ton due to the aerodynamics. it certainly felt that quick. (its in my garage, a cat C write off after an arguement with a deer. )
with the longer geared box it will lose a bit of acceleration , but gain a lot in cruising speed and comfort, even on 12 inch wheels it should be pulling well below 5000 rpm at the ton, (and rememberthe red lines at 7000)...............................................i'll post up a build thread when i get started
