Im thinking about getting one of THESE

Just wondered if anyone else has one, or can recommend something similar? Any better than a colortune for setting the A/F ratio? As i understand, if the ratio is leaned off too much the HC ppm goes up. Is there anyway of knowing what the HC is on that bit of kit? Or even whether its necessary to know.

Any comments appreciated.

I've got one had it a couple of years, mainly brought it because it was a bargain £40 new off ebay :)

But works a treat, its really only for setting CO level though, doesn't check HC.

I've used it on 3 minis though and they all get through the MOT ok, all running good.

oh just to add it doesn't check AF , its purely for the tickover mixture CO level.

Thanks for the reply.

The ad. says it can be used to set the AF mix as well, which is what im more after - something that can be used to set the mix throughout the rev range (within a bit). I know a RR session is the ideal thing, but out here in the stix Rolling Roads are hard to come by, not to mention they dont accept any cars using leaded fuel. So, what is my best bet?

I'll back up what lrostoke said, really useful for setting the mixture on idle - we had a couple of clubman estates on our little green gunsons analyzer last weekend and the difference in the smoothness of the drive is really impressive, we have also managed to drop the idle down to about 800rpm now thanks to the correct mixture.

Lovely stuff, well worth the money.

From what I've been reading to test AF across the rev range in live conditions you really need a wideband O2 gauge and sensor that you weld into the exhaust.

Worth doing a google search, but kits aren't cheap. And unless you've got mapable injection it will also be a case of finding out which section of the carb needle needs fetling to achieve the correct AF at that load.

Also while searching for this type of thing I did notice some of the O2 kits say don't use with leaded fuel or fuel with lead additives. Buggers up the sensor.

I've got a Blue Point gas analyser, and think it's superb, especially for minor tweaks.

Used it on my mini's, and a few other motor's, along with a timing light, to set up timing and mixture, and really can make a huge difference.

You can use O2 monitors with leaded but it will reduce the sensor life a lot.
