I want to make the rear of my car look cleaner so i one of the things i want to loose is the boot handle/lock. smoothing it is not a problem but getting the boot to open is a different matter. I am thinking of using an electric solenoid kit with a button in the cabbin to open it. I know this is not simple. Has anyone done this or know what catch from what car i could use to make it work.

If you do make sure you can overide the locking device or somehow change the battery. Otherwise if the battery goes flat your stuffed.

I always thaught of a bonnert release kit for my boot. The thing that scared me was, What if you pop the boot open, and it just falls down rather than just pops a bit so you can go pull it down the rest of the way.

Ive already droped my boot lid once and snaped one of the cable things that hold it. Got one to go.

If you ever do manage to do it, PLEASE either PM me how you did it, or post it on the forum.

Ive been trying to find a way for aaages.

Couldnt you have a catch in the boot so that when it pops it does not drop far and the catch will stop it, It could just be some rope or another one of those cables attached to a hook or somthing like that.

those hydraulic arms are incredibly strong!

i yoinked one off the boot of a metro to use on my bonnet and even with the leverage of the bonnet i couldn't push it back in! The bonnet started bending!

i think the best idea would be to have a sprung bonnet catch or stiff hinges

my option is like jackmans and use a gas strut from the boot of another car so that it lowers slowly and eligantly

yeah deffo, you can get them in all sorts of strengths and strokes, or you can get ones that have adjustable damping, like you can with shock absorbers. I reckon one of those would do the trick
