The time has come for my pride and joy to be put up for sale, this is to free some money up so i can finish the turbo conversion on my mini and also i feel like the time has come for a change.

CAR LINK

I'm after a car with similar performance with up to 3k to spend, all of your input will be most welcome.

Pug 306 GTi-6 would be similar though a little bit slower (165 bhp) - you can normally get a good one for around £2k

they are good cars, but i test drive the clio 182 and the civic type R speed wise they are the same, but the civics have very light steering which lacks feel. vtec is overrated IMO.

wouldn't pick one up for 3K either.

the civic has electic power steering and i would not say light but the turn in is precise and and good feed back
not driven a 182 clio but think the driving is better than a golf gti turbo and sciroco
but true you might struggle to find a good 1 under 3k
v-tec reminds me of a 2 stroke when you hit the power band
mazda mx-3 is a good contender aswell

Thats a good car. I was going to recommend a Cupra.
If you want to go performance and ubber cheap then how about a Nissan 300ZX?

You'd pick up a decent Corrado VR6 for £3k, they're currently selling for peanuts at the moment and aren't bad out of the box performance-wise (145mph 0-60 in 6.7s). You can 24V them quite easily or go the whole hog and do an R32 conversion but that might push the envelope on the budget a bit!

As you've said you think VTEC is over rated, bang goes my suggestion of an Accord Type R. They aren't very well known, but are one ofthe best kept secrets of the motoring world, better to drive than an ep3 civic, highly regarded as one, if not the best handling of all the brisk 4 door saloons that's about, cheap to run, cheap to buy, baically a very very good all round car. They have a no-nonsense vtec system, the newer civi's have a step down in power right before vtec to make it more pronounced, the Accords don't, makes it a pleasure to drive, and they sound nuts when you scream them to 8k  I loved mine.

You could probably get an absolute minter of a Peugeot 205 GTI for 3k if you hunt around. Won't be as quick with only 130 brake with a 1.9, but they're great fun. The nearest french thing to a mini.

The best car I've ever owned. If I hadn't been a poor student at the time I'd still have it now.

Would hold it's value now as well, especially if you get one of the limited editions with full leather seats and toys in either Sorrento Green or Miami Blue.
