My mini is called tink...

tink version 1: 1275 stage 1
Posted Image
got bored of that...

tink version 2: 1430
Posted Image
Posted Image
with the realization that A series can only be taken so far before costs get in 5 figures... i moved on

tink version 3: R1
Posted Image
i use my mini to commute as its my only car... and this proved to not be a daily driver, 105dB static had something to do with it, so sold the R1 setup and decided a vauxhall lump was the way to go

tink version 4: C16SE
Posted Image
Posted Image
this is what i am currently using, but with a little project going on in the garage... the new lump!

tink version 5: X16XE (Current project)
Posted Image
the lump i bought

Posted Image
everything stripped

Posted Image
block ready for machining

Posted Image
started cleaning the head

Posted Image
skimmed & honed block... and painted ofcourse! lol

Posted Image
dry assembled with plastigauge inside

Posted Image
measuring the clearances, all ok with new bearings :shifty:

Posted Image
all torqued up with lots of oil and high tensile bolts! £3 each, cheers SMMC!

Posted Image
pistons all cleaned up by the amazing girlfriend =p, new rings, ready to go in

Posted Image
finished rebuilding the head, new exhaust valves, stem seals, skimmed

Posted Image
Posted Image
yum yum, did some porting aswell you cant see here, to improve inlet port dynamics with my chosen induction...

Posted Image
45mm jenveys with MBE ecu and innovate wideband

thats all for now, ill update tomorrow or the next day dependant on how i get on!

all feed back welcome :teehee: good / bad / advice

Cheers,

Al

Looks a nice little project car, seen some good results from the "version 5" engine you got so be interested to how you get on.

best place for information is the 16v mini club forum. :shifty:

Looks like you've been very busy Alex. What are you doing for a manifold? I used a sportex 4-1 which with a bit of cutting n welding just fits in.

Joah:
Cheers, i do look at the 16vminiclub alot! real good site, hows your rebuild coming along?

NudgerSS:
manifold wise ive got an unknown 4 into 1 stainless with a flexy on the output which is 2.5", not sure if ill hear it over the TB's though!

Spent half the day putting a new fueling setup in my mini, 2 fuel pumps, swirl tank from s&m, and filters, then gettin it piped up and tidied. Ill get some pics tomorrow or so...

Posted Image
pistons in and big end caps on

Posted Image
ARP conrod bolts and a shot of the high tensile main bolts too. ARPs done up with their funny, take up slack and removed 3 times, lube lube lube, rubbish, but if it lets it rev to 7750 who cares =p

Posted Image
Piston shot in, yes, number 1 piston is missing, broken ring, new one on order. These pistons are awful to get it in my opinion. loads of hassle

Posted Image
not quite TDC, minimal 'squish' when it is at TDC though

Posted Image
oil pump and seal is mounted and inserted

2.5" 4 into 1 stainless with a 2.5" straight through pipe, single tiny exhaust should make a little noise, but my jenveys will sound good too! lol
looking good nudger! get it running!!!!!!

Posted Image
bit of graphics i painted on the cam cover, version 5
Posted Image
painted the cylinder head, all coming together :)
Posted Image
SBD alloy cambelt idlers, plastic ones tend to explode at high rpm
Posted Image
cleaned oil pickup on
Posted Image
SBD alloy fixed tensioner on, stops the cambelt from 'whipping' when your on and off the power violently

That should be fun! Just a couple of observations on the exhaust fanimold - is it going to give you enough ground clearance once in the car? Also you the way the Lambda sensor points may be a bit awkward if you have a front mounted rad. Be interesting to see it in the car (from a selfish point of view - I'm going to be fitting a small block Vaux 16v into mine later in the year!).

not using that front lambda boss! there is also one in the side so thatll be good. Looking at the size of the manifold it looks sooooo tight! so should be alrite. Think im going to use a modern rad, so 10mm thick or so which should help! the 8v clears well, so im hoping... it will all be good. You might beat me fitting a 16v to be honest, need to save up now as i said for the next push! but all the best! any questions let me no as the 8v vaux is running, 8000 miles in it now! might help you with a few issues!

ooo also, ground clearance should be fine! think the alloy sump is shallower than the pressed steel one i have in currently, but need to measure!

cheers for the comments chaps! all observations, creams and comments welcome!
