They'll basically give you something to keep you nice and still and calm (read zoned out) - it will most likely make you feel sick as a dog after though and I don't want to warn you about how bad the aftermath of wisdom extraction is. :shifty: Just stock up on the strongest painkillers you can and lots of tins of soup/rice pud/pasta etc.

A majority of my baby teeth had to be pulled out when I was young as wouldn't fall out on their own. Surprisingly I quite like visiting the dentist now!

Had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out in March & i must say it was really really painless & easy.

Top & bottom on the right side one week, the other side the following week all done by local anesthetic which was the very worst bit about it as the injections in the roof of the mouth caused the most pain for all of 5 seconds.

Seeing the dentist & his assistant kitted out in full facial protection ready to lever out the teeth was quite amusing.

You'll be fine a bit of pain never hurt anyone the cracking & crunching when they lever the tooth\teeth out sound horrible tho.

one of my old mans (rip) best stories bout the war :D

her used to fly out of Ely in the lancasters
any how he got an abcess under a bad tooth 2 days befor a mission
told him he could'nt fly
so on the morning of the mission (they were night flying)
he had to have it pulled COLD ie no pain relife at all none
just six of the crew holding him down :ermm: >_< >_<

now dont want to put you off but *melon* that gotta hurt

but modern dentist's should know what there doing and its only 30mins out of your whole life
that might hurt a bit
so dont worrie
just smile LOL

I had 3 of mine out about a month ago!

If you're going under, then you've really nothing to worry about. You'll have a little scratch when they give you the anaesthetic, and you'll wake up in the recovery room and be home by the end of the day! If you're done in the morning or early afternoon of course. :)

You may well find that you'll get something called a 'dry socket'. It's where the hole keeps oozing and won't heal up. Go to your dentist and he'll wash you out with some antiseptic and fill it with a bit of dressing - it looks a bit like the tobacco you use in the roll your own sort!

Expect your face to swell up like you've gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson though...!

You'll probably get a minor infection so try and get to the doctors for some antibiotics 4-days after you have the op.

Ooops, just read you're not going into hospital. Still, don't worry - you'll be fine!

i had 4 out the only fun thing about it was the anaesthetic because the hole side of my mouth went numb so wen i stroked my chin on the side the teeth were coming out of it tickled and i couldnt stop laughing

aside from that it was pretty painless

I am also very scared of dentists to the point of hyperventalating as soon as i hit the chair. :)

I had to have a tooth out but after 5 injectons and the pain i went home with a numb mouth for 11 hours.fun. I re-scheduled to another dentist and was given inhilation sedation. I ended up having a root canal instead so i could save the tooth for as long as possible and if im honest i really liked the dentist then.

You can keep getting them to make its stronger and stronger (to a point) if you have ever done nitrous in a balloon i recommend getting them to whack this stuff right up its awesome. I did at one point fall asleep and its not uncommon from what i read for you to actually forget quite alot of the procedure. For what felt like 5mins was actually an hours session. and the best bit is they turn off the nitrous and give you pure oxygen for a couple mins and your back to normal even able to drive.

When i was having the injections which i am also scared of, i actually ended up licking my arm because she dripped some [insert whatever the stuff is to make it numb] on me and for some reason i felt inclined to try it. although it tasted like crap.. lol

To be fair, if your having nitrous.. you should be excited more than scared.. you will know what i mean when your there :P

Isnt dry socket also age related, and also if your a smoker, as the nerves die as you get older.

you'll be right, they say conscious sedation, which sounds like you'll be lying there awake, but you won't even realise anything is happening to you.
