Is swapping my 10" Minilites for some 12" Minilites as simple as taking the 10's off and slipping on the 12's?

If so, anyone up for a swap? Mine are close to immaculate!!

Aye stick a 1" spacer on the back, and a 1/2" spacer on the front...

I did with my old mini, and found it helped

i think the general consensus on the forum is that 10's are the way to go ) and fitting 12's would be a backward step....correct me if i am wrong everyone

Why is it that with every other the bigger the rims the better, but with mini's everyone is for smaller wheels.

I know mini's are supposed to handle best on 10's, after all thats what they were originally designed for, but if you were buy any other car it is generally considered a step up to go for bigger wheels.

Its a mini thing?

After much consideration, I shall keep the 10's and splash out on the disc brakes... whatever method that may entail... over £900 for Cooper S brakes though.. hmmm... that's heavy going! G'nite all

I've seen that mentioned a lot in these forums... anyone got THE definitive method or a link to a thread already discussed? Or should I just say to Bill Richards (in true Starsky style...) "do it, just DO it!" ??

£900 seems a bit steep matey! I paid £700 for a complete kit brand new with 4 pot alloy calipers. You can get a conversion to convert a set of 8.4" brakes for about £350 too, if you can get hold of a set of 8.4's, they're pretty readily available.

Keep the 10's though, in my opinion Mini's look best, handle best, go best and feel best on these wheels.

I know mini's are supposed to handle best on 10's, after all thats what they were originally designed for...

Not strictly true. Sir Alec Issigonis originally intended his little baby to have 12" rims, and that what what he'd proposed to the BMC. I'm not sure how far this got through the design stages (it's bin a long while sine I read my mini history books), but BMC basically overruled him because of the raw materials costs. Austin finally changed to the 12" rims when the 2nd A-reg came out (1984), because the balance of cost had shifted, the raw materials costs was almost irrelevant, and it was costing as much in labour to make one Mini as it was a larger exec car like the Princess.
