As the car was not fitted with rear seat belts does that mean i need to get some fitted for people to sit in the back or because its made like that i can have people in the back without having to wear seatbelts? Thanks!

found this

You must wear a seat belt in cars and goods vehicles where one is fitted.

Just looking for anything else, as far as I know if there not factory fitted and haven't been fitted since there's no requirement for you to fit them, even fronts.

as an addition there's also this

What do I do if my vehicle - has no seat belts, or no rear seat belts?
If a vehicle has no seat belts - if it's a classic car, for example - a child aged 3 years and over is allowed to travel in a rear seat unrestrained.

so if fronts aren't fitted kids have to be in the back. edit: Fronts were factory fitted by law from 1967.

also

The rules don't require people to fit seat belts in the rear of vehicles that don't have them. However, all vehicles dating from April 1982 should have seat belt anchorage points if they don't have seat belts, making it easier to fit them if you want to.

edit: Did a forum search too and found this Clicky

i knows it about 1960 when the seat belt reg came in. before then if a car built before 1960 had no seat belts. then you dont have to wear them.
After then. if a 4 seater is built then you have to wear them. saves lifes

1967 to be exact, thats when new cars in the UK had to be fitted with front seat belts by law.

edit: Basically as aston says if they're fitted you have to wear them, front and rear. To skipersworld you don't have to have rears fitted if they weren't factory fitted, 1987 they came factory fitted by law from what I have read. Just to clear up what i said previously.

Probably obvious, but when I looked into this some time ago I found a statement saying if you carry 1 adult passenger only, then they must sit in the front with belt on if you have no belts in the back. I can't find where I read it now but I'm sure it is correct.

A short while ago, I posted a MASSIVE (and I mean massive) post about seatbelt law... Please use the search feature and it'll come up...
