How about haveing a quiz on signup say about 25-50 qeustions mini related, like why are you interested in minis and all that, only saying this to stop spammers joining up just to spam the forum with non mini related advertising, it may put them off as they wont be asked to go through it all.
I know it might put genuine mini people off signing up to the forum but if they wanted to really join they would have to do it.
Just a suggestion as ive noticed lots of spammers signing up in the last couple of months just to advertise non mini related items.

As a bit of a forum *woman of ill repute*, Id say that people would never sign up.They would find the process to daunting.
The people you are on about arent spammers/bots anyway, they are real people advertising products from real websites. I suspect the person that you are refferring to is also a member here under another identity but thought that this would be a good place to advertise.
This is currently happening on another site I visit (VW)

It's a call for admin, I imagine it's easier to ban the odd spammer than vet every new member - who could still turn out to be spammier than Kermit's love life.
