Hi all

I've got a 1399cc engine in my car putting out around 100bhp at the moment. Its done around 10,000miles since it was built.

I've been running it on Penrite 20w60 but I mostly use the car for short journeys at the moment and the oil never gets hot enough to burn any of the contaminants in the oil off.

I did see that keith calver was running fully synthetic Torco 0W 20, I wasn't sure if that was going to would be too thin and I would end up having oil everywhere. Plus torco works out rather expensive, I think its around £12 per litre.

What oils do people recommend? I was thinking of running something around the 10W40 mark. Is fully syntheitic a good idea?

Thanks

Kyle

I'm afraid 10W40 would be too thin and wouldnt be able to cope with extra pressure and heat of a 1399 engine and cause damage to your gearbox and premature wear.
A good 20W50 is the way to go, just need a little more time to warm up, but then engine runs a lot smoother. I use duckhams, but if u find valvoline dont think twice and buy it!
