get your lass to hold the cam while you drive?

She hates going in the mini nevermind holding a camera in there lol.

A charge cooler, cools the air.

With chargers/turbo's you need to monitor the air temperature. You could fit 2 guages to monitor temp before cooler and before the charger to monitor how efficent the cooler is.

Ah okay. I'll look into charge coolers for the new engine then. Cheers Jordie.

Sounds good, so your going too go with a tame cam then?

Should be a good improvement over the 998.
You planning on a supercharger kit or custom jobby?

Imo you should go custom and add a charge cooler, realy get some decent power more reliably.

Yeh i'll probably get a kent 266 or similar (i'll more than likely get the engine from MED so it will be the piper equivalent).

Yeh should be a lot faster than the 998 :).
Custom jobby me thinks. Mini mad daps makes manifolds i think and i'll source a supercharger off the bay of E.

Don't know much about charge coolers. Do they cool the supercharger down or the air flow?

EDIT: Did take a video however the radio was too loud in parts and you can't see the road lol. Need a good mounting point for the camera to sit on. Any ideas? I was thinking the top of the head rest?

Cheers,

Andrew

The cooler goes after the charger. I believe the manifolds that mini mad daps makes are similar too all the other kits which do not allow for a charge cooler. You want too mount the charger at the front of the engine and then have pipework going too the carb. In a way it can be easier/cheaper as no complicated manifold has too be fabricated, and you will just need a turbo carb, plenum chamber, and pipework, and a charge cooler if wanted.

Prawn is doing a very similar thing, and it is a much better design.

Hmmm...seems like the cheaper option except, how much do turbo carbs go for? What's the difference between a turbo carb and a normal one? Can a normal one be converted?

I'll try and find Prawn's project now and see how he's doing it.

Cheers Ben,

Andrew

Turbo carbs go for a bit more than normal ones, im not sure how much though. The difference is that when coming on boost it doesnt confuse it and move the damper around. Im pretty sure they can be converted. Prawn doesnt have a project thread unfortunatly.

No wonder i can't find it lol. Was it just the ERA turbo and metro turbo that had these carbs or are there any other models that had them fitted? It's just so i can ask at the scrappy and see if there are any models there.

I think the montego, meastro had something similar. Not entirely sure. Have a look around in the forced induction area, and on turbominis.co.uk, all of the infomation you will need.

One more thing (totally unrelated to the charger), what size is the sump plug? Just need to locate a socket for tomorrow's oil change.

Cheers,

Andrew

Had quite a productive few days on the mini recently.

Did the first oil change on the mini:

Posted Image

Got oil on the drive and my dad wasn't happy :). He's fine now though, got some coke on it straight away and it's come off so not to worry.

My dad noticed that my rear drivers side wheel cylinder was leaking so i've ordered a new set of shoes & a genuine lockheed wheel cylinder and we are going to fit that when it arrives.

And today i got my front andf rear subframes painted in hammerite and also the sills :D. Happy i've got this done because now i can run the mini through the winter without worrying about the salt. :

You can't really see the new paint because of the light but you get the general idea.

One final thing, my speedo stopped working because the cable didn't reach so i pulled the cv=able through a bit more and hopefully it should work now. Haven't tested it yet but will do tomorrow. I do have a question about it though, this is my cable:

Posted Image

I have 1275GT clocks in my car so i'm not sure whether this fitment is right for those clocks. Does anyone know whether it is? The cable fits but i'm afraid it might fall off again.

Cheers,

Andrew

Got the wheel cylinder fitted tonight. The old ones had pretty bad scratches on the ruber seals so it was leaking badly. Put some new shoes on aswell because the old ones will have been impregnateed with the fluid.

Didn't get any pictures unfortunately because i wanted to get the job finished before it got dark.

I'll get a video of the car tomorrow which i've been promising for a while lol.

Cheers,

Andrew

And the best of the lot:

My cylinder head has a hairline fracture in it but it's still usuable so having a spare is a mind settler incase mine does decide to go :ohno:.

And today i bought these for a whole £10  :

Posted Image

Posted Image

They were a bit mucky and bobbly when i got them to i've hoovered, bobble 'offed' and clean them.

My old ones where all torn and horrible so out with the old:

In with the new:

The patch in the middle is just where the seat is damp.

Cheers,

Andrew
