I also saw the worst spot of mini parking ever, on my travels to blackpool this weekend for a friends birthday:

Ha, would you like your knife back ben lol ha. Nah, i think i'll just be 1275ing it in the summer due to not starting my full time job till september. Hopefully a metro in one of the scrap yards near me will come up trumps. It won't just be a standard 1275 though .

So until you come on full boost, i'll be right beside you ben . However, then i suspect there'll be a bwaaarrrppppp, ttsshhh bwaaarrrrppp and you'll be gone lol.

Right, time for a plan update (seens though ben called me on my thread title ;) - thank you to the mod that changed it for me :)): I've changed my plans from supercharging the mini (as i don't have the funds) to making it a fast road mini instead.

I have managed to bag myself a job down in rawcliffe bridge for after i graduate university so i don't really have the money to through at a supercharged engine build (because i have to move away) whereas i can make a fairly decent NA fast road engine. Plus i'll be going down to rawcliffe in the mini so i want it to be fuel efficient (if my right foot doesn't turn to lead ofcourse ;)).

I'm not sure on the spec as of yet but it will hopefully be an overbored 1275 with a few fancy bits.

I've asked for a quote from smart performance again so i can put that against the cost of building it myself and see if it's worth getting it built up.

So yeh, plan has changed again lol.

Cheers,

Andrew

If you want power and MPG you want a turbo mate. When you get your new engine, you want to get a nice strong bottom end so in the future, you can slap on some sort of forced induction.

Still trying to keep up with me?

If your set on the N/A route though, they can be quite economical, im getting around 37 - 40 mpg in my mine when it's got an MOT.

Yeh, i was going to fit a centre main strap with a treated crank aswell just so i don't have to strip and get it done later on really. Saves chew when i want to bolt on more power lol.

If i get my engine before your turbo goes on i probably will, ha. But afterwards i have a sneaking suspicion you might just pip me to the post ;).

Well, seens though it was a nice day today i though i mayswell get the hos epipe out and wash & polish the car. Here's the pictures:

However, she looks good from these distances but when you get closer it starts to get a bit worrying:

Posted Image

This, i think, is where the guy who had it before me must have put a lump of filler on the scuttle? Don't know much about bodywork so it could just be a mini thing?

Also these:

This is where the door has caught the wall on the drive:

Posted Image

In this one you can see the paint on the valance has split and the bottom of the boot is rusty:

Posted Image

The front bumper is pretty pitted (looks clean because of the polish - you can just see it in the picture):

And the bottom of the door is starting to go:

Oh, the speedo doesn't work because it has the wrong cable, the interior light and heated rear screen don't work (can't work out why) and it pulls to the left slightly. Are minis supoed to drive to the left or could something wrong in the suspension be causing this?

I can't really sort these jobs now as i don't finish uni till the middle of may :). So they'll just have to get worse :s.

I am giving my car a lot of bad press here though. There are some good things about it: the engine seems to be pulling well (for a 998), there's no real structural rust on the floorpan or the subframes and it's still handling like a dream lol.

Cheers,

Andrew

Try getting your wheel alignment checked, could be that simple.
Tyre pressures, etc etc

Car looks great in those pictures, you expect a few little niggles on the body for an old car, certainly alot better than mine, and mine's only been on the road for 2 years since rebuild.

I think i'll be needing two new tyres on the passenger side soon so i'll get the alignment checked then to see if it's that.

Yeh, i'd just like to be able to fix them now so it stops any more rust but with uni being so crazy-busy at the moment, there's no time for me to get the jobs done. Plenty of time in the summer i suppose.

Cheers Ben.
