Bought myself some new tools to go in my breakdown kit today. Got myself some Clark AF spanners (also for working on the mini) and got another tool rool to stick the rest of the tools i might need in:

This is my full breakdown kit (minus 1l bottle of water):

Need to get my pinion and worm gear now for the gearbox. It turns out the engine in it (according to guessworks engine no. decoder) is a 998 out of a metro with a 3.65 final drive as new off the production line. However, me and my dad checked the final drive tonight and it's only a 3.44 :S. Going to check it again tomorrow to see if it is really 3.44 because we lost the mark round the back of the crank pulley.

Cheers,

Andrew

Right, well here's a proper update. I think i've sourced myself a set of twin hs2 carbs with a manifold for 70 squids :). Going to give them a rebuild and maybe a bit of polish (they look pretty decent anyway so i might not) and then port my head ready for the rc40 i will get after my holiday :).

The carbs don't have any needles but i'm not bothered because i'll be able to tailor some new ones to my engine instead of using the old ones that might have been in there :o. Should be gooooood .

That's a really really nice mini
Great buy, she's lovely.
Tool kit looks good too though I'd get a torch and some gaffa tape in there.

Twin carbs will be nice, get some pics up when you get them.

I will do mate, think i'll go to pick them up on monday from my mates in northallerton. Might get the mini on the road this weekend aswell hehe :).

Ok, just had a look at my GT gauges... It's in the bottom left square, almost covered by the black plastic. Mine reads 780 turns per kilometer. The later speedos are 800 turns per KM. :( (800tpkm = 1248tpm)

Cheers,
Jan :)

I found the TPM of the speedo where you said it should be Jan. Really have to get your head next to the speedo to see it though lol.

Well, i've got some bad news. I've been initiated into the mini world the hard way. Went to scarboroough on saturday to see my girlfriends mams mate, and on the way back on sunday, the mini broke down :P. My dad thinks she's dropped and inlet valve. Putting a half day holiday in though today so i'm going home and whipping the head off to see what's actually wrong. Bad times.

Oh well, i'll update later on with some pics and hopefully a cause and solution.

Cheers,

Andrew

Just done a compression test with my dad and we have 150 pis in 3 and 4 and only 50 psi in 1 and 2. Looks like the head gasket has gone. Looking into getting one today so i can whip the head off and get it done.

When it went there was no bad scrapping noises or bangs so hopefully it's just the gasket and not any valves.

Andrew

EDIT: Is there any difference head gasket wise between a metro and a mini engine? Because my engine is out of a metro.

Naaa mate, mini and metro should be the same. Bad news about the head gasket. I used to fly through head gaskets on my 998 engines until I realised it was the head that was causing it, even though it had been skimmed.

Good luck changing it.

Ben
