Naaa mate, mini and metro should be the same. Bad news about the head gasket. I used to fly through head gaskets on my 998 engines until I realised it was the head that was causing it, even though it had been skimmed.

Good luck changing it.

Ben

Nice one, my dad has ordered me a head gasket from local motor factors so it should be here tomorrow. My dad is taking it into work tomorrow to check and see if it's straight. If it is, jobs a good 'un and i'll be back on the road tomorrow. If not, then i'll get teeside motor factors to skim it for me.

Anyway here's the pics from the towyesterday and the strip down today (which i did for the most part myself apart from lifting the head off which me and my dad did):

Cost me £182 to get home :). I am a member of the AA now though so it's not all bad.

And the strip down:

You can see the culprit where all the black is between 1 & 2:

After cleaning:

This is the bugger that got me stranded 50 miles away from home to wait 4 hours for the AA to pick me up then 2 hours home:

Still ... i've got a nice new one going in tomorrow :).

Cheers,

Andrew

Lol haha i'll have you know ben, that my yaris is very nice thank you :D.

Aye yeh i'm driving it now, well not at the moment anyway because it has no cylinder head :P.

The yaris isn't insured but i'll just get temp insurance when someone wants to come and look at it.

Yeh, hopefully the motor factors come up trumps and skim the head today. If you get them out on the b roads you can chuck them round the corners, nothing like a mini though lol.

Well ... i've got good news, then bad news and then good news. Which one would you like first?

The good news:

The motor factors came up trumps yesterday and skimmed the head in a day (my dad knows the guy in there so he said he'll push it through for him .

The bad news: my cylinder head has a crack in it :P. It's where the head gasket blew however it doesn't reach into the other bore.

And finally the good news: we put the cylinder head back on anyway because my dads mate from work has an a 998 A+ series engine sat on a subby at work and said that we could have the head for free :tumble:. I'm going to drop him a few squids anyway though as a thank you.

So the head will be coming off again in a couple of weeks and put at the back of the garage labelled: Cracked; Spare!.

I've got some pictures on my phone but the work computer is not playing ball so i'll upload them later on when i get home .

Cheers,

Andrew

Oh yeah :tumble:.
I'll have a look at what make the gasket was. Don't think it was payen.
The head on the A series at my dads work has bigger valves than the ones in mine so it sounds like a good one to do some porting on .

EDIT: Just checked the picture of the head set i got and it's a British Gaskets Automotive gasket set so hopefully i should be okay. Cheers for the heads up jaydee.
